Ever since its launch in 1932, the Whitney Biennial has been one of the art world’s most highly anticipated events. The world-renowned contemporary art museum recently announced the artists chosen for its upcoming Whitney Biennial 2014 and several members of the SVA community have been selected. whitney200Former MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department faculty member Sarah Charlesworth, MFA Fine Arts Department faculty member Suzanne McClelland (MFA 1989 Fine Arts), BFA Cartoon Department and BFA Illustration Department faculty member Keith Mayerson, and alumni Ei Arakawa (BFA 2004 Fine Arts), Dawoud Bey (IW 1977 Photography), Zackary Drucker (BFA 2005 Photography) and Amy Sillman (BFA 1979 Fine Arts) will all have work exhibited in the 2014 Biennial.

“The 2014 Biennial brings together the findings of three curators with very distinct points of view,” said Donna De Salvo, Chief Curator and Deputy Director for Programs at the Whitney in a press release. “There is little overlap in the artists they have selected and yet there is common ground. This can be seen in their choice of artists working in interdisciplinary ways, artists working collectively, and artists from a variety of generations. Together, the 103 participants offer one of the broadest and most diverse takes on art in the United States that the Whitney has offered in many years.”

Artists create works specifically for the Biennial; the Whitney will release details about the 2014 Biennial projects and a schedule of events in the coming weeks. For more information and updates about the Whitney Biennial 2014, visit the Whitney’s website.
