Alumnus Brian Floca (MFA 2001 Illustration as Visual Essay) has been awarded the 2014 Caldecott Medal for his illustrated children’s book Locomotive, which tells the adventurous tale of a family on a train trip from Omaha to Sacramento in 1869. Image may be NSFW.

“I live and I work in Brooklyn and there’s so many children’s book authors and illustrators who work here,” Floca recently told WNYC. “And so many of them are so good and to be singled out like that, it feels great.”
