Works by 16 MPS Digital Photography alumni (class of 2013) will be on display in “Natural Selection” at the Calumet Gallery, 22 West 22nd Street, February 20 – 28. Curated by MPS Digital Photography and BFA Photography faculty member Michael Foley, the exhibition explores themes ranging from contemporary nightlife and memory to cityscapes and the body, with photographs that deal with the vulnerability of humanity and the evolving human condition.
Shelly Au‘s Two Beautiful Daughters series depicts how China’s rapid growth has ushered in the destruction of history and communities. In Fruits of Nature, Dila Atay uses elaborate miniature still lives to examine the imaginary line of fear and wonder as humankind interacts with wildlife. Correlations: NYC by Lavonne Hall explores the connection New York City residents feel to specific locations within the City. In Beauty Blueprints, Heather Meyers looks at the effect of societal ideals of beauty on individual self-image.
“Natural Selection” also features works by Bina Altera, Cana Atay, Yannick Bindert, Anna Colliton, Masha Ermak, Stephanie Guttenplan, Elizabeth Harnarine, Diana Kahrim, Clay Patrick McBride, Imara Moore, Vincente Munoz and Randhy Rodriguez.
