A current SVA student and an alumnus have earned well-deserved funding for two new projects. Nora Krug (MFA 2004 Illustration as Visual Essay) received a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation to work on her upcoming graphic novel. Her recent work includes a visual biography about a WWII Japanese Kamikaze pilot who survived his mission when his airplane unexpectedly crashed, and it was included in The Best American Comics 2012 edited by Francoise Mouly, as well as The Best American Non-Required Reading 2012 edited by Dave Eggers. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation is named for the abstract expressionist painters Jackson Pollock and his wife Lee Krasner to provide financial assistance to visual artists of recognizable artistic merit.

Current MFA Design student Elizabeth Showman received The Christopher E. and Deborah J. Buck Thesis Scholarship for her crowd fundraising platform In.Bounds. As a former Division I college athlete, Showman recognizes the enormous financial barrier that exists for many youth athletes, so she developed In.Bounds as her thesis project to connect athletic resources to youth in need. The Christopher E. and Deborah J. Buck Thesis Scholarship fosters entrepreneurialism in the field of design by providing an award of up to $25,000 to designers from the MFA Design Department that will enable further development of exceptional thesis projects.
