Ten Convenient Stores, by Harlan Erksine (MFA 2009 Photography, Video, and Related Media): Erksine’s book is one of several small, photo-conceptual books included in “Ed Ruscha: Books & Co.,” an exhibition at the Madison Avenue Gagosian Gallery. From Above and Below, by Sharon Harper (MFA 1997 Photography and Related Media): Harper’s first monograph, From Above and Below, features 10 years of photography and video stills exploring the skies and the intersection of technology and perception. Harper uses her camera as a tool to record information that the eye cannot easily process. Kate Greenberg (MFA 2010 Photography, Video, and Related Media), who does PR work for artists, helped promote and launch From Above and Below and organized related events, like Harper’s talk last month at International Center of Photography. Yonkeros, by Jaime Permuth (MPS 2009 Digital Photography): Permuth captures Willets Point, a small, hidden area of New York City, in the black and white photographs of Yonkeros, his first monograph. Permuth’s work highlight the beauty and essence of the junkyards and scrap heaps known as “The Iron Triangle,” with a focus on the workers and their tools.
