Of the select group of creatives featured in Print magazine’s Spring 2016 issue on “56 Inspiring Designers,” nearly half of them are members of the extended SVA community. print200Dubbed The Hollywood Issue: New York, the cover features former BFA Design instructor Chip Kidd and the inside of the magazine has pages upon pages of gorgeous photos and insightful profiles of these top leaders of design. Here are some of the highlights:

MFA Design Co-chair Steven Heller and MFA Design and BFA Design faculty member Louise Fili (who will be honored with SVA’s 28th annual Masters Series Award and Exhibition) are called The Polymaths, “Someone who knows a lot about many different things.”

MFA Design for Social Innovation Chair Cheryl Heller is singled out as The Intellect: “By raising questions others are hesitant to ask, by breaching topics that might otherwise be easier left alone and by giving students the skills that just might help them truly make an impact, Heller is an invaluable pioneer in the world of design.”

In the Head Honchos section, MFA Interaction Design chair and creative director at NPR, Liz Danzico, offers the advice, “Don’t feel tied to your plans, because what’s around the corner is always going to surprise you. Keep your mind open.”

MFA Design faculty member Maira Kalman is highlighted as The National Treasure, and Gail Anderson, BFA Design faculty member and director of design and digital media at the Visual Arts Press, is included with just three other Reinventors.

Stefan Sagmeister, MFA Design faculty member and partner in the highly respected design firm Sagmeister & Walsh, has the distinction of being profiled as The Sagmeister. “In a world ruled by categorization, he manages to defy it, and retain the element of delight and surprise. He is, simply, Sagmeister.”

Featured as The Boss, BFA Design faculty member Jessica Walsh is singled out for her partnership in Sagmeister & Walsh, as well as for her 40 Days of Dating and 12 Kinds of Kindness projects with fellow BFA Design faculty member Timothy Goodman (BFA 2007 Graphic Design), who is also featured in the issue as The Man About Town.
