MFA Art Practice Department and MFA Fine Arts Department faculty member Johan Grimonprez’s (MFA 1992 Fine Arts) latest project, The Shadow World, has been awarded a production grant from the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund (GTDF). Based on a book of the same name by Andrew Feinstein, a former African National Congress member of parliament in South Africa, the documentary focuses on corruption in the international arms trade business and those who profit financially when the cost is human life. The GTDF offers finishing finances to domestic and international filmmakers with feature-length films that humanize critical issues of social significance.
In addition to funding, Grimonprez and fellow grantees will receive individualized year-round support from the GTDF that includes one-on-one consultations and customized guidance designed to help each film reach completion, enter into the marketplace and locate broader audiences.
