SVA recently participated in the annual Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) professional development conference for alumni relations and career services professionals. Rhode Island School of Design hosted the conference, which focused on timely topics such as best practices in internship program management and innovative approaches to supporting alumni outreach.

SVA’s Angie Wojak, Director of Career Development, moderated a panel on Creating an Effective Employer Relations Program. The panelists discussed their experiences in cultivating relationships with art and design industries and shared their methods of global outreach to employers, such as strategies for identifying internship hosts abroad.
Other highlights of the conference included RISD President John Maeda’s keynote speech on the importance of the STEM to STEAM initiative. Maeda discussed the role of designers and artists in helping drive innovation and support the national economy in the years ahead.
Scott Belsky, co-founder of Behance (which powers SVA Portfolios), delivered a speech about how emerging technology and online platforms will empower creatives to connect directly with brands, clients, and collaborators.
