Juried by photo world luminaries Diana Edkins and Charlotte Cotton, the Cord Prize acknowledges the work of early and mid-career contemporary visual artists and awards over $10,000.

In “I Miss You Already,” Shen Wei’s (MFA 2006 Photography, Video and Related Media) self-portraits document sexual self-discovery and an internal conflict over boundaries. Janelle Lynch’s (MFA 1999 Photography, Video and Related Media) “Walls and Portraits” series explores Spanish landscape devastated by loss and a disregard for the environment during and following the Civil War. In “Nebraska,” Joni Sternbach (BFA 1977 Photography) focuses on the American West and acknowledges the relationship between naturally occurring technologies and human imprint. Lisa Fairstein’s (MFA 2012 Photography, Video and Related Media) “Ultra Static” offers a textured terrain where layers of color and corporality provide sensual alternatives to traditional imagery.
