Multimedia artist Lisa Kirk (BFA 1991 Fine Arts) presents “Left Behind,” an exhibition examining the paradoxical nature of collective fear and the imbalance of power structures. 
Using artifacts, oxidized rainbows and steel ravaged by natural corrosion, Kirk narrates the impending doom of earth’s neglected ecological system. With works on paper, installation pieces and sculpture, the artist draws attention to doomsday anxiety. During the exhibition, Kirk will offer aura readings and custom elixirs. On January 25, a performance element will supplement the work, featuring Marina Abramovic in the roll of the Grim Reaper. On view at Invisible Exports, 89 Eldridge Street, through January 26.
BFA Photography Department faculty member Allan Frame merges his crisp visceral photography with the literary works of Chilean author Roberto Bolaño in “Allen Frame: Dialogue with Bolaño.” Taken from Frame’s extensive catalog of Bolaño book covers, the noir-like photos communicate the depth and looming intimacy characteristic of the intense sociopolitical worlds captured in Bolaño’s prose. On view at Gitterman Gallery, 41 East 57 Street, Suite 1103, through January 11.
BFA Illustration Department faculty member T.M. Davy (BFA 2002 Illustration) offers scenes of private contemplation in “Candela,” a collection of oil paintings that shed light on the complexity of conscious perception. Painted from observation of full figures posed and defined by ambient candlelight, Davy chronicles the experience of taking in form and demonstrates how paintings document intimate times spent alone with light and thought.
