BFA Fine Arts faculty member Melissa Meyer presents a new series of paintings, each an accumulation of calligraphic marks that intertwine, overlap or abut each other, on top of pale colors laid down to establish the tone of each work. 
Several of the paintings—Box Step, Do-Si-Do, and Shuffle—are named for dance steps, suggesting an overall theme of “tempo.” On view at Lennon, Weinberg, Inc., 514 West 25th Street, through February 15.
For his debut solo exhibition, alumnus Nir Arieli (BFA 2012 Photography) offers “Inframen,” which consists of 13 black and white infrared images of male dancers. Arieli’s photos reveal the blemishes, scars, stretch marks, sun damage and other traces of wear that lie below the surface of his subject’s outward appearance, resulting in a poignant statement on physicality and interior life. A new exhibition by Jenny Santos (MFA 2012 Fine Arts) relates the challenges of the game of golf with the universal frustration of being unable to fulfill one’s ideals. Entitled “The Nineteenth Hole,” the installation is an unconquerable putting green that’s meant to symbolize the relationship between existing opinions and the unstable and shifting play of everyday appearances.
