Current faculty and alumni exhibitions pay homage to contemporary arts, sexuality and desire in paintings, photography and three-dimensional design. “Nate and Me,” Matthew Pillsbury’s (MFA 2004 Photography, Video and Related Media) second exhibition with Sasha Wolf, offers audiences unfolding sexuality, personal investigation and phantoms of evenings past in black and white photography. Shots like HBO’s Rome reveal the transformative nature of sexual connection, while Self portrait at computer displays the fleeting nature of everyday ritual. Eight x 10 inch images, derived from timed exposures, encourage viewers to consider the lingering nature of human bodies in shared spaces. On view at Sasha Wolf Gallery, 70 Orchard Street, through April 20.

pillsbury425BFA Visual & Critical Studies faculty member Eric Doeringer presents “Paintings & Sculpture,” reproductions of Andy Warhol’s Brillo Box and 1965 Campbell’s Soup Cans. Doeringer’s 36 x 24 inch Campbell’s Soup Can paintings straddle the line between revised and revisited with a slightly toned down color palette and updates consistent with contemporary product design. Created using a silkscreen technique, his Uncrushed Brillo Box sculpture, composed of three plywood boxes stacked together, emphasizes art as object. On view at Mulherin & Pollard, 187 Chrystie Street, through March 23.

Collier Schorr’s (BFA 1985 Communication Arts) “8 Women” examines female desire, identity and performance in a catalog of work spanning from the mid-1990s to present day. Schorr’s images hybridize set design, fashion photography and tear sheets to display the relationship between role-playing and creation. Works such as The Bricks and Where are you going? challenge concepts of exhibitionism and empowerment.  On view at 303 Gallery, 507 West 24 Street, through April 12.
