Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, art director Jules Tardy (MFA Design 2011) and his wife, director Hirondelle Chatelard, completed Made in Bhutan (watch a trailer below) for the Loden Foundation earlier this year. The Loden Foundation, Bhutan’s first registered charity, created the Entrepreneurship Programme in 2008 to support and encourage local entrepreneurs. Since its inception, the Entrepreneurship Programme has generated over 200 employment opportunities nationwide and funded 63 local entrepreneurs.
Made in Bhutan documents the existence of socially conscious business implementation in Bhutan, a nation threatened by unprecedented unemployment rates and high financial dependency on India. Since its release in the capital city of Thimphu in November 2013, Made in Bhutan has screened in several venues ranging from universities to prisons in hopes of empowering youth audiences and raising awareness about Bhutan’s financial climate.
