Three SVA alumni are raising questions and scrutinizing societal conventions in their latest exhibitions.

bun200Rebecca Goyette (MFA 2009 Fine Arts) presents “Sausage Party Bride,” an exhibition of ceramics that explores eroticism as well as the roles and restrictions of gender. Goyette’s sculptures have a whimsical yet pointedly satirical feel: a penis pirate ship, a cabinet full of sullied puritans, hanging plaques that resemble those that might be found in “an x-rated Scooby Doo episode,” as well as a series of ceramic brides and grooms with clever titles, like Party On! Bride or Nothing-to-Hide Groom. On view at Arts+Leisure, 1571 Lexington Avenue, through March 15.

Ina Jang‘s (MPS 2012 Fashion Photography) photo exhibition “All Rose Are Red, All Birds Are Blue” features subjects that often appear partially obscured against their high-intensity surroundings. Both playful and poetic, combining fiction and reality, Jang “investigates poetic and surreal relationships among things, places, and womanhood.” On view at Foley Gallery, 59 Orchard Street, through April 12.

Young Sam Kim‘s (BFA 2002 Photography) “Dark Cities” is a meditation on the ways in which urban life creates alienation, disillusionment and despair while still ironically maintaining the promise of fulfilling dreams. Kim’s work displays the city dweller’s hunger for warmth and connection while also suggesting that disconnectedness and spirituality can co-exist. On view at Emmanuel Fremin Gallery, 547 West 27th Street, through March 7.
