This past January, SVA BFA Photography participated for the first time in the 24th Annual International Los Angeles Photographic Art Exposition, better known as Photo L.A. The department occupied two booths for the four-day event, one featuring the work of students and recent alumni and one promoting Dear Dave, its magazine of writing and photography, which is produced three times a year.
Representing the department and Dear Dave at the booths were Maria Dubon, coordinator of special programs and projects; Stephen Frailey, chair; and Kathryn Humphries, assistant to the chair. The participating photographers: current BFA Photography students Alec Jesse Charlip, Logan Jackson, Mike and Claire, Ken Lavey and Oliver Lott, and alumni B-rad Izzy (BFA 2013 Photography, and a current MFA Photography, Video and Related Media student), Matthieu Lavanchy (a 2008 – 2009 alumnus of the College’s PhotoGlobal program), Corey Olsen (2014), Lauren Poor (2014), Colin Walker (2014), Rachel Wark (2014) and Elizabeth Woodbury (2014). Student and alumni work was available for purchase (with all proceeds going to the artist), as were copies of Dear Dave and select pieces from the magazine, which could be ordered via ArtSpace.
In addition to its participation in Photo LA, BFA Photography regularly shows work at Photoville, another major photography event, held each year in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
